about

After recording the MAMARRACHO split, Spence joined us on bass for a while and we wrote more structured, song oriented stuff. For the first time in our existence we started writing lyrics for our songs instead of just faking it. It was fun playing stuff like this as a full band, but things didn’t move along at the pace Brian and I were used to. After recording the first side of this tape, we went back to playing as a two piece. The second side of this tape was recorded by Mike Hoff in Fairfield, IA with Daryl (DISMA, FUNEBRARUM, etc) on guitar. Because of his involvement it took on more of a death metal feel.

I can’t remember the circumstances now, but the master tape for this was either lost or dubbed over (I’m thinking Daryl borrowed it and accidentally dubbed over it) before any copies were made forcing me to remix everything again. The second mix wasn’t anywhere near as good as the first.

I still have the letters I received from our die-hard noisecore fans accusing us of selling out and jumping on the power-violence bandwagon. One of them was even accompanied with a graphic drawing of me engaged in oral copulation. There have always been structured HC parts in our music, but the ratio between structure and noise parts threw some of our fans off leaving them questioning our motives. If we truly wanted to “sell out”, as we were so often accused of, we would have forged ahead with our noisecore sound as that what’s everyone knew us for. Instead, we played what we wanted to, doing whatever we wanted to with our music. More style changes were right around the corner…
